This course is offered to master's and doctorate students from the Health Technology Graduate Program and is open to other participants who are interested in gaining or deepening their understanding of the mechanisms of human motor control. We will address concepts of Motor Control (e.g. redundancy or abundance; motor synergies; motor programs; equilibrium point hypothesis) which might be employed to understand motor behaviors such as posture, grasping, and gait. Motor control is a field devoted to understanding how humans and animals use their brains to control movement. Therefore, it relies on other fields such as Biomechanics, Neurophysiology, Kinesiology, and Psychology. In this course, we will focus on the first two. At the end of the course, the student/participant should be able to read, understand, and criticize research on motor control, combining the concepts studied in the course with their own knowledge about the subject.
