Italy’s Contribution to High-Tech Industry, Italy
Olivetti typewriters and computers, Maserati, Lamborghini, and Ferrari cars, Ducati motorcycles, Piaggio scooters, Ermenegildo Zegna and Loro Piana textiles, Tod’s footwear and accessories are just a few examples of how in the last century Italy contributed to the high-technology industry. What are the reasons for this successful inventiveness? The course will focus on Italy’s industrial history, with the aim of understanding the uniqueness of the “made in Italy” label. Among the reasons for Italy’s industrial and technological inventiveness are its capacity to combine tradition and innovation, its long-established excellence in craftsmanship, and the role played by economic districts, which succeeded in involving effectively key stakeholders and in addressing local development in an innovative way. The course will also focus on current challenges related to globalization. Application period: from July 24 to November 17, 2023.
