Announcement on COVID-19

Considering the evolution of cases of contamination by the coronavirus (COVID-19), PUCPR advises its students and employees who may be traveling to China, Italy, South Korea, Japan, and Iran or who have recently returned of these countries to remain in home isolation for 14 days, away from their regular and academic activities. We also request that you contact PUCPR by calling + 55 (41) 3271-1515 (select option 0 – zero) or email [email protected] immediately after your return to Brazil, to receive more important information regarding other academic guidelines and questions.

If on the 15th day, with no signs of any symptoms, the student can go back to his normal academic routine. However, with common signs of infection, which include fever, cough and breathing difficulties, the student should immediately seek medical attention. Regarding those who have recently resumed or are in other countries where there are cases of contamination with the virus, PUCPR requests that they contact the telephone or e-mail informed above immediately after their return, to receive guidance on the procedures that must be followed for these cases.

Attention: the information may be updated as the scenario changes. We take the opportunity to share some basic recommendations:

Recommendations for prevention and control

1) Avoid close contact with people suffering from acute respiratory infections;

2) Wash your hands frequently, especially after direct contact with sick people;

3) The use of alcohol gel is highly recommended to maintain asepsis. All PUCPR facilities have duly identified alcohol gel dispensers;

4) People with symptoms of acute respiratory infection should practice breathing etiquette (covering their mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, preferably with disposable tissues and after washing their hands).

Virus infection resembles a common cold or flu, which is much hard to diagnose. Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough and difficulty breathing. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome and even death.

Incubation Period

According to information from the U.S. Disease Control Center (CDC), the 2019-nCoV incubation period is about 2 to 7 days and can reach 14 days after exposure.

Virus Transmission

Coronavirus can be transmitted mainly by respiratory droplets, short-term coughs, and sneezes, or contact with objects contaminated by the virus, similar to influenza or other respiratory viruses.

In the upcoming days, we will be updating our website on the

current situation in Brazil regarding COVID-19.
